NAMIBIA: Batseba Ndukireepo, the daughter of the Ondagare, or keeper of the holy flame, at Otjongombe, a tiny Herero settlement close to the Botswanan border. Batseba wears the traditional Herero dress, introduced by German missionaries, comprising around 12 metres of material and 6-8 petticoats.
